Yew Craggs Skyline Challenge

Yew Craggs nestles in the heart of Borrowdale, surrounded by the beautiful Lake District fells. From Yew Craggs we are incredibly privileged to be able to see both the lowest and highest Wainwrights – Castle Crag and Scafell Pike. Indeed we think we may be the only property with such a view!

Yew Craggs from Rigg Head

To celebrate this unique position, and introduced in 2021, we present the Yew Craggs Skyline Challenge!

The aim: to complete a route which takes in all the fells and tops visible from Yew Craggs.

The fell top list:

  1. Castle Crag
  2. High Spy
  3. Maiden Moor
  4. Catbells
  5. Grange Fell to include King’s How and Brund Fell tops
  6. Great Crag
  7. Eagle Crag
  8. Rosthwaite Fell to include Bessyboot and Rosthwaite Cam
  9. Combe Door
  10. Combe Head
  11. Glaramara
  12. Looking Steads
  13. Great End
  14. Broad Crag
  15. Scafell Pike
  16. Dale Head

This specific fell list has been carefully selected by the Yew Craggs owners. Fell visibility may change according to season (e.g. leaf cover) and weather conditions (rain, mist) but we promise: the fells are still there!

The route: The only route stipulation is that you must either start or finish with our home fell of Castle Crag. Apart from that, as long as all designated fell tops are visited, you can devise any route, clockwise, anti clockwise, zig-zag, repeat fells, add bonus fells etc.

Who can take part? Any Yew Craggs guests

How? On foot - walk or run (or both!).

Time challenge? There is no time target. Fit as flea fell runners can aim for a single day; but a multi day approach is equally valid. We think a 3 day option would make a good long walking weekend; or take a gentler approach and a 5 day week.

Evidence: GPS trace; photographs; exhaustion; trail tales.

Reward: fame and glory on our spreadsheet. Extra kudos for any photographs of Yew Craggs from your walk!

Participants need to:
